About Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn

About Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn

Somebody always says they will just have a handful. The bag is empty before the film has finished its opening credits.

Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn is toffee popcorn that has dressed up for Christmas, with a yule log twist on the caramel crunch you remember from the sweet shop.

It belongs on the coffee table between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, next to the tin of chocolates nobody admits to raiding. Sweet, crunchy, and gone far faster than anyone planned.

Open a bag, pass it round the sofa, and Christmas in Canada starts to feel a lot like the one back home.

Frequently asked questions about Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn

Q: Is this the UK version?

A: It is, the British Christmas edition from Taylors, and it ships from within Canada. Same bag you would pick up at home in December.

Q: How big is the bag?

A: It is a 155g bag. Enough to share between a sofa full of people, in theory. In practice it depends who is sitting nearest.

Q: Is it a good gift for someone who misses home?

A: Very much so. It makes a cracking stocking filler or an add-on to a Christmas parcel for anyone spending Christmas in Canada and missing a British one.

More about Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn

Toffee popcorn has been a fixture of British snacking for years: the cinema bag, the corner shop shelf, the thing you reach for when crisps feel too sensible. The Christmas version borrows its name from the yule log, the rolled cake that turns up on British tables every December without fail.

People in Canada go looking for this one because it is a seasonal bag. You spot it in a UK supermarket in December, it becomes part of the furniture, and then you move four thousand miles away and it simply stops appearing. It is a small taste of a British Christmas, which is often the bit people miss most.

It comes in a 155g bag, a decent sharing size for an evening in front of the telly. Fold the top over or clip it shut and it keeps happily in the cupboard. Tip it into a bowl for the Christmas film, or drop the bag into a stocking and let someone find it on Christmas morning.

It sits nicely alongside the rest of the UK Christmas cupboard: a selection box, a tin of chocolates, the mince pies, a proper cup of tea. Boxing Day grazing, sorted.

The story of Taylors Caramel Christmas Yule Log Toffee Popcorn

The bowl that empties during the film

Christmas telly has rules. The film goes on, the bowl comes out, and by the second advert break it is somehow empty and nobody had more than a handful. This is popcorn for that bowl, and for the sofa it gets passed along. It comes from a family firm in Perthshire that started with potatoes and ended up making crisps and popcorn. A bit of a British Christmas at home, even if the sofa is in Canada now.

Four generations of muddy boots

The Taylor family has farmed the land around Errol in Perthshire for around 100 years, across four generations. It goes back to 1927, when James Taylor's great-grandfather started a potato farming business. In the 1980s chairman George Taylor moved into potato washing and packing with Taypack. Then in 2009 came the obvious next step for anyone surrounded by that many potatoes: crisps. Somebody had to do something with them all.

Mackie's, then just Taylors

The crisps began as Mackie's at Taypack, a 2009 joint venture with Mackie's of Scotland, the Aberdeenshire ice cream and chocolate people. The Taylors took their stake to 75% in 2013 and bought out the rest in 2022. That same year the crisps, popcorn and lentil waves were rebranded as Taylors Snacks, and the company rescued Sheffield-based South Yorkshire Foods from administration, bringing popcorn production in-house. It was a busy year.

Two million bags, one old brickworks

These days the factory sits at The Old Brickworks in Errol, near the family farm, and the business turns out more than two million bags of snacks every month. The range runs from straight cut and ridge cut crisps to lentil waves, popcorn and seasonal lines, this bag among them, plus a limited-edition Haggis & Cracked Black Pepper crisp for the brave. Not bad for a potato farm.
