The story of Moo Free Munch Mix
The bag that never lasts
Nobody has ever made this bag last. People claim to. They are lying. You open it to have one, the car journey gets a bit longer, and suddenly you are shaking the corners for crumbs. It comes from Moo Free, a family business in Holsworthy, Devon, and spotting it on a shelf in Canada is a small jolt of home. Same old promise to yourself that you will save some for later. You will not.

Re-mortgaging the house for chocolate
Moo Free started with Mike and Andrea Jessop, a husband and wife team, making a small number of Easter eggs in 2008. They proved so popular that the couple were flooded with requests for more. So they did what most people would not, and re-mortgaged the house to pay for machinery and ingredients. Then came two years perfecting the recipe before the brand officially launched in May 2010. Easter eggs first, mortgage second. Most of us manage it the other way round.
A few eggs, then 30 countries
It paid off. In 2014 a second factory opened in Holsworthy, right next door to the first, to keep up with rising global demand. By 2016 they had tripled production capacity to supply the US and Chinese markets, were exporting to more than 30 countries, and had picked up a Queen's Award for Enterprise along the way. Still family-run, still led by Mike and Andrea, and now employing over 60 people in Devon. Not bad for a few Easter eggs and a re-mortgaged house.
A regular on the high street
Back home, Moo Free chocolate has been stocked in over 400 Marks and Spencer stores across the UK, so for plenty of you it was part of an ordinary week, grabbed on the way out or slipped into the basket for the kids. The factories and head office send zero waste to landfill as well, which makes the empty bag in your hand feel slightly less guilty. Slightly.
