In Britain the selection box is part of Christmas itself. One per child is the rule, usually from a grandparent, and somehow by Boxing Day there are three of them on the sideboard.

If you grew up with that, Christmas morning feels a bit unfinished without one. Plenty of parents raising children in Canada want the same small ritual for their own kids: the box opened before breakfast, the bars lined up on the carpet, the careful trading with a brother or sister.

This is the kids' box at 116g, which is about right for small hands and still leaves room for Christmas dinner. It is flat and light, slides neatly into a stocking, and keeps happily in a cool, dry cupboard (well away from the radiator) until the big morning.

People rarely buy just one. It tends to go in the basket alongside a tin for the grown-ups and a few more stocking fillers from home, so everyone in the house gets a taste of a UK Christmas, not just the youngest.
