The story of Milky Way Crispy Rolls
Saved for later, eaten at once
You were told to save it for after your sandwich. You did not. A Milky Way Crispy Roll in a packed lunch was never going to last until the bell, and somewhere in Britain a child is proving that right now. This one comes from Mars Limited, the UK subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, so it is the name you grew up with, on the wrapper you grew up with. Spotting it on a shelf in Canada tends to get the same reaction: a pause, then a grin.

Slough, of all places
Forrest Mars Sr. left the American Mars company founded by his father, Frank C. Mars, and set up Mars Limited in Slough, Berkshire, England, in 1932. Slough. Not a castle, not a country pile. The British chapter of a very American sweet business starts in a Berkshire town, and Slough has been quietly owed some credit for it ever since. Nobody has said thank you. Consider this the thank you.
Same name, different bar
A word about the name, since somebody will ask. The British Milky Way bar, launched in 1935, is a lighter, non-caramel confection, and a different product from the American Milky Way, which is closer to what the UK calls a Mars bar. So the same name means two different things either side of the Atlantic. Explain that at a party in Canada and watch the room slowly lose interest. You will keep going anyway.
Family firm, very big family
Mars Limited in the UK is part of Mars, Incorporated, a privately held, family-owned American company. Big family, admittedly. Meanwhile the cupboard at home runs on its own rules: anything on the sweet shelf goes quietly, and the last one goes quickest. Somebody always takes it. Nobody ever admits to it. You know exactly who it was, because it was you.
