About Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam

About Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam

You have watched this farm try, and quite often fail, to make money for several series now. The least you can do is eat its jam. Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam is the jar from Jeremy Clarkson's farm shop in the Cotswolds, the one with the queues down the lane.

Sweet first, then a bit of a kick, which is roughly how every episode goes too.

It sits next to a slab of strong cheddar as if it has always lived there.

This is the UK jar and it ships from within Canada, so nobody has to borrow a Lamborghini tractor to go and fetch it.

Frequently asked questions about Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam

Q: How big is the jar?

A: It is a 280g jar. That is plenty for several cheeseboards, or one very determined evening.

Q: Would it make a good gift for a Clarkson's Farm fan?

A: It is about as close as you can get to handing them something off the shelf at Diddly Squat. Put it in a box with a decent cheddar and some crackers and you have done well.

Q: What do people eat it with?

A: Cheese first, almost always. After that it goes on cold meats, burgers, sausages and anything else that looks like it could use a bit of heat.

More about Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam

Chilli jam has quietly become a fixture of the British cheeseboard. It turns up on the ploughman's lunch, beside the pork pie at a picnic, and in the farm shop jar line-up next to the chutneys and pickles.

In Canada, people tend to find this one the same way: they have binged the show, heard Kaleb's opinions on everything, and decided they want something from that shop that is not a fridge magnet. It is a small piece of a very particular corner of Oxfordshire that you can actually spread on a cracker.

It comes in a 280g jar, which lives in the cupboard until you open it; after that, the lid will tell you what it wants. Spoon it onto cheese and cold meats, stir a little into a burger, or brush it over sausages near the end of cooking and stand back.

It goes best with the company it keeps on a British board: a sharp cheddar, oatcakes or water biscuits, and a pork pie if you are being serious about it. Most people add a jar of chutney while they are at it.

The story of Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam

Named after nothing, famous anyway

If you have watched Clarkson's Farm, you already know the joke. The name means nothing. Literally. Put a jar of Diddly Squat Farm Chilli Jam on the table and somebody will do the voice before the lid is off. Somebody else will start on the potatoes. You will nod along, spoon in hand, because you have seen every episode at least twice and you are not about to admit it. The jar just sits there, far calmer than anything that ever happened on that farm.

A thousand acres of not much

Jeremy Clarkson bought about a thousand acres near Chipping Norton in 2008, land that was formerly part of the Sarsden estate. A local villager contract-farmed it until he retired in 2019, and then Clarkson began farming it himself. He renamed it Diddly Squat, slang for the least amount, or nothing at all, to indicate its lack of productivity. Honest branding, at least. The Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm then made it internationally known, which is a lot of attention for a farm named after nothing.

Forty tonnes of potatoes later

The shop was Clarkson's idea after he accidentally produced 40 tonnes of potatoes. Nobody plans that. He and Lisa Hogan opened the Diddly Squat Farm Shop in 2020, and it is known for drawing very long visitor queues. It has not had a quiet life either: there was a two-month closure after a council dispute over the roofing material on the building. The official shop site states that its jams, chutneys and condiments are homemade using produce from Diddly Squat Farm, with products made on the farm itself or by neighbouring businesses in the Cotswolds.

Further than the farm gate

In 2024 Diddly Squat Farm Shop products became available nationwide via Amazon Fresh. The farm kept branching out too: Hawkstone Lager was created from barley grown there after a cut in government farm subsidies in 2021. Not bad for a place that promised diddly squat. Meanwhile the British habit holds firm. A jar of chilli jam, a wedge of cheese, a few crackers, and suddenly it is a proper evening.
