About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix

About Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix

Banana milkshake mix is one of those British cupboard items that sounds modest until it is not in the house anymore. Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix has been the answer to a glass of cold milk needing a reason to exist, and this is the genuine UK version, imported from the United Kingdom and available in Canada without any suitcase logistics required.

The 300g tub makes 55 glasses, which is either reassuringly good value or a quiet challenge depending on how enthusiastic the household turns out to be. Two teaspoons, cold milk, stir. That is genuinely the whole process, and the banana flavour is the sweet, familiar kind that has always been slightly more popular than people admit to in public.

For British expats in Canada who grew up with Nesquik on the kitchen shelf, this is the product they mean when they go looking. The Great British Shop stocks it as part of a broader range of British drinks and pantry staples, shipped from within Canada so there is no waiting on an international parcel or hoping a visiting relative remembered to pack it.

Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix is gluten-free, which is worth knowing if you are buying for someone with dietary requirements. It comes in a single 300g format, and if banana is not the flavour the house is after, other varieties are worth a look too.

More about Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix

Nesquik Banana Flavoured Milkshake Mix sits in the part of the British grocery world that rarely gets written about but gets bought consistently: the everyday flavoured milk drinks that live on the kitchen shelf and do a quiet, reliable job. Banana is the flavour that tends to surprise people by how much it is missed, partly because it is less common in Canadian supermarkets than the chocolate variety.

For British expats in Brampton or Fredericton rebuilding something close to a familiar kitchen, banana milkshake mix is one of those small but specific gaps that is genuinely hard to fill locally. It is the kind of thing that does not occur to you until someone mentions it, and then it becomes unreasonably urgent.

The 300g tub is a pantry-friendly format: it stores easily in a cool, dry place, keeps well between uses, and takes up very little space for the number of glasses it produces. It is also confirmed gluten-free, which is useful to know for households managing dietary requirements without wanting to cross-reference every drink mix.

Nesquik produces several flavours in the UK range, and banana sits alongside the chocolate and strawberry versions that many households will already know. The full Nesquik in Canada range at The Great British Shop covers more than one option if the house has strong opinions about flavour.

The 300g tub ships from within Canada, so whether it is heading to a kitchen in Waterloo or Montreal, it arrives without the delays and costs of an overseas parcel.
