The story of Thursday Cottage Deluxe Preserve Trio Gift Set
Toast, but taken seriously
Toast is only ever as good as what goes on it, and you already know that. Thursday Cottage is the jar from the proper breakfast table: the one at your gran's with the lid a bit sticky, the knife left standing in it by someone who will deny it to the end. Spot one of these on a shelf over here and you go quiet for a second. Then you start working out where to hide it from the rest of the house.

It started with a cottage called Thursday
The name is not a whimsy. Thursday Cottage was founded in 1963 in a cottage of that name outside Spaxton, Somerset, which is about as English as an origin story gets without a cream tea attached. For many years the business was owned and run by Hugh and Pam Corbin of Lyme Regis, who sold it in 2002. Plenty of small names vanish after a change of hands. This one carried on, and kept its manners.
A hundred jars at a time
Thursday Cottage is now an independent part of the Tiptree group, with production at Trewlands Farm in Tiptree, Essex, where the range is still handmade. Each boil still produces only about 100 jars. That is not a factory line. That is a pan and someone paying attention. The parent, Wilkin & Sons Ltd, was established in Tiptree in 1885 and has held a Royal Warrant for preserves and marmalades continuously since 1911. Your toast is in good company.
Made for the shop on the corner
Thursday Cottage specialises in luxury handmade jams, marmalades and curds for the independent trade, so it was always more of a little-shop find than a big-shop staple. The range has a cheeky side too: a Fine Cut Orange Marmalade with Whisky, and a Strawberry Jam with Champagne. Breakfast, dressed for later in the day. Nobody at the table has ever complained.
