The story of Thursday Cottage Deluxe Curd Trio Gift Set
Three jars, one spoon, no witnesses
Curd is the thing you eat straight from the jar when nobody is looking, then put back with the lid on a bit too tight so it looks untouched. Three jars just means three chances to get caught. Thursday Cottage makes the sort of jar that ends up on a proper tea table, next to the good plates that only come out when someone's mother visits. If you grew up with a jar like this in the cupboard, you know exactly which spoon you used.

It started in an actual cottage
The name is not a marketing idea. Thursday Cottage was founded in 1963 in a cottage of that name outside Spaxton, Somerset. For many years it was owned and run by Hugh and Pam Corbin of Lyme Regis, who sold it in 2002. Today it is an independent part of the Tiptree group, and production is based at Trewlands Farm in Tiptree, Essex, where the range is still handmade. Each boil still produces only about 100 jars. Small batches. Somebody is doing a lot of stirring.
Friends in very high places
The parent company is Wilkin & Sons Ltd, established in Tiptree, Essex, in 1885. Wilkin & Sons has held a Royal Warrant for preserves and marmalades continuously since 1911, and currently holds it as Purveyors of Tiptree Products to King Charles III. That is a fairly grand family tree for a jar that is mostly going to end up on a crumpet on a wet Tuesday. The crumpet, to be fair, does not mind.
The rest of the shelf
Thursday Cottage specialises in luxury handmade jams, marmalades and curds for the independent trade: the kind of jar you find in the little shop with the bell over the door. The range runs to a Fine Cut Orange Marmalade with Whisky and a Strawberry Jam with Champagne, which is the jam cupboard getting dressed up for the evening. A gift set of curds, then, is in good company. Whoever gets it will not be sharing.
