About Moo Free Munch Mix

About Moo Free Munch Mix

It is called Munch Mix, and it does exactly what it says on the bag. The bag opens, the munching starts, and the bag is empty a good while sooner than anyone planned.

Moo Free Munch Mix is a little grab bag from Moo Free, the British chocolate maker, and it is a handful made for the car, the desk or the walk home.

If it was your go-to at the till back in Britain, you already know the face you are making right now.

It is the UK bag, and we ship it from within Canada. Share it if you must.

Frequently asked questions about Moo Free Munch Mix

Q: How big is the bag?

A: It is a 65g grab bag. Enough for one person on a good day, or two people who get along unusually well.

Q: Will it survive the post?

A: It is packed to travel, so it arrives as a bag of Munch Mix rather than a surprise. In the warmer months chocolate can soften on the way, so pop it in the fridge for a bit when it lands.

Q: Is it a good thing to send to someone?

A: It makes a cheerful little parcel for anyone who misses British sweets. Tuck it in with a few others and you have a box that gets opened with real enthusiasm.

Q: Do you have other British sweets to go with it?

A: Plenty. Have a look round the rest of the shop and build yourself a proper bag of favourites.

More about Moo Free Munch Mix

Moo Free sits on the shelves of British shops next to the big household names. It is a smaller outfit, and the people who buy it tend to ask for it by name rather than grab whatever is nearest.

Habits travel. Someone who picked up Munch Mix every week in Britain does not stop wanting it just because they now live in Canada, so they go looking for the exact bag they remember, and that is usually how they end up here.

The 65g bag is small enough to vanish into a coat pocket, a lunchbox or a glovebox. Keep it in a cool, dry cupboard and away from a sunny windowsill, because chocolate and a hot car in July have never once got along.

Moo Free makes a wider range of chocolate bars and bags, and Munch Mix rarely travels alone. Most people put it in the basket alongside a few other British sweets, then claim the lot is for the kids.

The story of Moo Free Munch Mix

The bag that never lasts

Nobody has ever made this bag last. People claim to. They are lying. You open it to have one, the car journey gets a bit longer, and suddenly you are shaking the corners for crumbs. It comes from Moo Free, a family business in Holsworthy, Devon, and spotting it on a shelf in Canada is a small jolt of home. Same old promise to yourself that you will save some for later. You will not.

Re-mortgaging the house for chocolate

Moo Free started with Mike and Andrea Jessop, a husband and wife team, making a small number of Easter eggs in 2008. They proved so popular that the couple were flooded with requests for more. So they did what most people would not, and re-mortgaged the house to pay for machinery and ingredients. Then came two years perfecting the recipe before the brand officially launched in May 2010. Easter eggs first, mortgage second. Most of us manage it the other way round.

A few eggs, then 30 countries

It paid off. In 2014 a second factory opened in Holsworthy, right next door to the first, to keep up with rising global demand. By 2016 they had tripled production capacity to supply the US and Chinese markets, were exporting to more than 30 countries, and had picked up a Queen's Award for Enterprise along the way. Still family-run, still led by Mike and Andrea, and now employing over 60 people in Devon. Not bad for a few Easter eggs and a re-mortgaged house.

A regular on the high street

Back home, Moo Free chocolate has been stocked in over 400 Marks and Spencer stores across the UK, so for plenty of you it was part of an ordinary week, grabbed on the way out or slipped into the basket for the kids. The factories and head office send zero waste to landfill as well, which makes the empty bag in your hand feel slightly less guilty. Slightly.
