The story of Moo Free Festive Friends
Small friends, big stocking job
The satsuma comes out of the stocking first, and nobody has ever been excited about the satsuma. Then the chocolate turns up and breakfast becomes optional. Festive Friends are that bit of the morning, made by Moo Free, a family firm in Holsworthy, Devon. You do not need it explained. You just need to get to it before your brother does, because he has already finished his own and is now looking at yours with intent.

It started with Easter eggs
In 2008 Mike and Andrea Jessop, a husband and wife team, made a small number of Easter eggs. They proved so popular that the pair were flooded with requests for an Advent calendar and other products. So they re-mortgaged their house to pay for machinery and ingredients, then spent two years perfecting the recipe. Moo Free officially launched in May 2010. Two years is a long wait for chocolate. Ask anyone who has stared at an Advent calendar on the thirtieth of November.
Devon, then rather further
The business stayed in Holsworthy. A second manufacturing facility opened there in 2014, right next to the first, to meet rising global demand. In 2016 Moo Free won a Queen's Award for Enterprise after tripling its production capacity to supply the US and Chinese markets, exporting to more than 30 countries. It is still family-run, still led by Mike and Andrea Jessop, and employs over 60 people in Devon. Not bad going for a few Easter eggs and a re-mortgaged house.
You may have walked past it
Back home, Moo Free has been stocked in over 400 Marks and Spencer stores across the UK, so there is a fair chance you passed it on the way to the till. Which is exactly how it ends up in a stocking: grabbed at the last minute, found first thing on Christmas morning. A Christmas gift for someone who misses home does not need to be big. It just needs to be the right one.
