The story of Moo Free Space Rocks
Small rocks, big questions
A bag called Space Rocks does not need a sales pitch. Hand one to a child and the questions start straight away: are they real, where did they land, can I have the whole bag. The answer to the last one is usually yes, because you are outnumbered and they know it. These come from Moo Free, a family firm in Holsworthy, Devon. That is a long way from orbit, but it is where these particular rocks come down to earth.

It started with Easter eggs
Mike and Andrea Jessop, husband and wife, began in 2008 by making a small number of Easter eggs. They proved so popular that the Jessops were flooded with requests for more. They re-mortgaged their house to fund machinery and ingredients, then spent two years perfecting the recipe. Moo Free officially launched in May 2010. Putting the house on chocolate sounds like a plan made late on a Friday night. It worked, which is more than most Friday night plans can say.
Next door, then abroad
In 2014 they opened a second factory in Holsworthy, right next to the first, to meet rising global demand. In 2016 they won a Queen's Award for Enterprise, after tripling production capacity to supply the US and Chinese markets, and they were exporting to more than 30 countries. Not bad for a couple who started out with a few Easter eggs and a very understanding mortgage adviser.
Still the Jessops, still Devon
For all that, it is still a family business, still led by Mike and Andrea, and it now employs over 60 people in Devon. Back in Britain, the range has been stocked in over 400 Marks and Spencer stores, so plenty of people know the cow on the packet. The bag rattling around in your shopping came out of Holsworthy. Tell whoever is eating them. They will not be listening. They will be eating them.
