About Cadbury Biscoff Baubles

About Cadbury Biscoff Baubles

Some baubles go on the tree. These ones go missing from it.

Cadbury Biscoff Baubles put the chocolate you grew up with and the biscuit everyone now has opinions about into one bauble, three to a pack. Three sounds like plenty. It is not.

Hang them up if you have the willpower. Most households manage about a day before one is quietly unhooked, and nobody can say how it happened.

A small piece of a British Christmas, for anyone keeping one going in Canada with home a long way off.

Frequently asked questions about Cadbury Biscoff Baubles

Q: Are these the British Cadbury ones?

A: Yes. These are the UK Cadbury Biscoff Baubles, and they ship from within Canada, so no waiting on a parcel from across the Atlantic.

Q: How many baubles are in the pack?

A: Three. Enough for the tree, or enough for one person who claims they were only going to have one.

Q: Do they make a good gift?

A: They do. A Christmas gift for someone who misses home works best when it is something they actually remember, and a Cadbury bauble on the tree tends to do the job.

More about Cadbury Biscoff Baubles

Chocolate on the tree is a fixture of a UK Christmas, right up there with the selection box on Christmas morning and the tin that does the rounds after dinner. A Cadbury bauble feels like the official version.

If you grew up with Cadbury at Christmas, the name on the foil is half the point. People in Canada start looking for these the moment the tree goes up, usually because someone in the family has asked where the chocolate ones are.

You get three baubles in the pack. Hang them on the tree, drop one in a stocking, or keep them back for Boxing Day when the cupboard needs restocking. Store them somewhere cool and dry, well away from the radiator and the fairy lights.

They tend to travel in good company. People pair them with a selection box, a few stocking fillers and something for the after-dinner tin, and between them that is most of British Christmas food sorted.

The story of Cadbury Biscoff Baubles

The tree has never been safe

Somebody always eats the chocolate off the tree before Boxing Day. Nobody ever owns up. Cadbury Biscoff Baubles are made for exactly that crime. If you grew up with Cadbury somewhere in every British Christmas, from the selection box on Christmas morning to the tin going round the sofa after dinner, you already know the name on the front. Cadbury has been in the stocking for as long as you can remember, and hanging one on a tree in Canada feels a lot like home.

A grocer on Bull Street

It started with a shop. John Cadbury opened a grocer's at 93 Bull Street in Birmingham in 1824, selling tea, coffee and drinking chocolate he prepared himself. He was a Quaker, and he promoted drinking chocolate partly as a respectable alternative to alcohol, which is a very sober way to start a chocolate business. From 1831 it moved into factory production on Bridge Street. His sons, Richard and George, took over in 1861, and in 1866 they launched the purer Cocoa Essence using a Dutch cocoa-pressing method.

A village with no pubs

In 1879 the brothers opened a purpose-built factory at Bournville, south-west of Birmingham. George went further and developed a model village for the workers, famous for having no public houses. Chocolate, yes. A pint, no. Dairy Milk was launched in 1905 and was the best seller by 1914, and the glass and a half of full-cream milk turned up in 1928. Along the way came a merger with J. S. Fry & Sons in 1919, then Schweppes in 1969.

Still Bournville, still Christmas Eve

Kraft Foods acquired Cadbury in 2010, and it is now part of Mondelez International, created when Kraft split in 2012. Cadbury chocolate is still made in Britain today at the historic Bournville factory in Birmingham. That matters less in a boardroom than it does in your front room on Christmas Eve, when a bauble goes on the tree, gets admired by everyone, and quietly vanishes. Hang one up anyway. Somebody has to keep the tradition going.
