The story of Bonds of London Giant Strawbs
The name on the bag
Some sweets you remember by the name on the bag, and Bonds of London Giant Strawbs is not a name that hides behind modesty. You know the moment. A handful of change, a corner shop, five minutes of very serious thought, and a bag that was meant to last the walk home but barely made it to the end of the road. You have moved a long way from that road since. The bag has finally caught up with you.

Old jars, older habits
When Bonds of London changed hands in 2016, the trade press described it as one of the UK's oldest sweet businesses. That tracks. Bonds of London has historically been known for traditional British sweets such as pick'n'mix jars and hanging bags, and its best-known jars include retro classics such as sherbet lemons and wine gums. If you ever stood on tiptoe at a sweet shop counter saying "that one, no, that one", you know exactly the sort of jar we mean.
New owners, same managing director
In April 2016, Bonds of London was bought by Innovative Bites, a US-foods wholesaler, in a multimillion-pound deal. Innovative Bites was founded in 2008 by Vishal Madhu, which makes the buyer a good deal younger than the business it bought. Managing director Philip Courtenay-Luck stayed on after the acquisition. A year later, Innovative Bites went on to acquire pick'n'mix wholesaler Hancocks Cash & Carry in a deal worth about £100m. Somebody there clearly likes sweets as much as you do.
The bag nobody admits to finishing
A bag of sweets in a British house has a short and predictable life. It gets opened for just the one, passed round during the film, and found empty on the arm of the sofa with nobody owning up. This bag will go the same way. The only difference is that this time you are the one who has to explain where it went, so you might want to hide it.
