Large Steak Pie – Pre-Order (Pick-Up December 31st)

Steak pie sits right in the middle of British comfort food, from the pub menu to the chippy counter. In Scotland it goes one better and becomes a ritual: bring in the bells on Hogmanay, then sit down to steak pie the next day.

That ritual travels. Plenty of families in Canada have kept it going for decades, long after the last trip back, and the one thing they cannot do is nip round to the local butcher's on the 31st and grab the pie. So they come looking for one.

The practical side is the whole point. It is a large pie, ordered in advance and collected on 31 December, so New Year's lunch is sorted before the party even starts. Heat it through the next day and serve it the way your family always has: mash, peas, and an argument about who gets the corner bit.

While you are in collecting it, people tend to pick up the rest of the day too: a tin of shortbread for the bells, a bottle of brown sauce for the table, and something sweet for whoever finally does the washing up.
