Swizzels Drumstick Squash - 1L

Squash is the quiet constant of a British kitchen. A bottle sits by the kettle, the grown-ups mix it weak, the kids mix it strong enough to stand a spoon in, and nobody ever agrees on the right amount.

Ask for squash in Canada and there is a fair chance someone hands you a vegetable. That is usually the moment people start searching, and finding the Drumstick name on a bottle is the bit that makes them laugh out loud at their screen.

The practical side is simple. It is a one-litre bottle of concentrate, so it goes a long way: a splash in the glass, cold water on top, adjust until it tastes right to you. Keep it in the cupboard and follow the bottle once it has been opened. It also does a decent job in a jug on the table when the family comes round.

Swizzels are the people behind a whole shelf of British pocket-money favourites, Love Hearts, Parma Violets and Refreshers among them. Plenty of people order the squash and then, purely for research, add a bag of the sweets it was named after.
