In Britain the Easter egg gets its own season. The aisles fill up weeks ahead, and an egg from your favourite chocolate bar is the classic present from a grandparent, an aunt or the neighbour who never forgets a birthday either.

Easter in Canada has plenty of chocolate of its own. But if you grew up with a Snickers egg on the kitchen table on Easter morning, that is the one you go looking for. It is also the one you want your own kids to know about.

A proper large egg at 216g, boxed so it travels. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, well away from the sunny windowsill, and it will wait patiently for Sunday. Crack it on the table and share out the pieces, or take it to another room and say nothing.
