About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Morrisons Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce

About Morrisons Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce

Friday night, a wok, a nest of noodles and ten minutes. Tea, sorted. Morrisons Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce is the supermarket shortcut that got a lot of British households through a long week.

It goes in at the end, coats everything, and turns whatever was left in the fridge into something that looks deliberate. Chicken, prawns, half a bag of beansprouts going soft at the back: all of it counts.

If you grew up with a Morrisons down the road, you know that sauce aisle by heart. This is a small piece of it, back in your cupboard.

Frequently asked questions about Morrisons Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce

Q: Is this the UK version?

A: Yes, it is the Morrisons sauce from the British supermarket shelf, and it ships from within Canada. Same pack, same flavour.

Q: How big is it?

A: It is 120g, enough for one good panful of noodles. Most people keep a couple in the cupboard for the nights the plan falls through.

Q: How do I use it?

A: Stir fry your meat and veg, add the sauce at the end, then toss it through cooked noodles. Ten minutes, one pan, very little washing up.

Q: Is it a good thing to add to a parcel for someone?

A: It is light, it travels well and it is exactly the sort of thing people miss without realising. Pair it with a few other British cupboard staples and you have a proper taste of home.

More about Morrisons Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce

Chow mein is about as British a weeknight tea as anything with a Chinese name can be. It sits alongside the fish fingers and the spag bol in the rota of meals that turn up because it is Tuesday and nobody has the energy for anything else.

People in Canada go looking for this one because they want the flavour they actually remember, the one from the big Saturday shop at Morrisons, not a version of it. A sauce is a small thing until it is the wrong one.

It is a 120g pack, which is one panful: stir fry your meat and veg, tip it in, toss it through cooked noodles and you are done. It sits quietly in the cupboard until the night you need it, which is usually the night you forgot to plan anything.

Most people pick up a packet of egg noodles to go with it, and a few grab something else from the British supermarket shelves while they are at it, because one bit of the Saturday shop tends to remind you of the rest.
