About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About McVitie's Club Mint 7 Pack

About McVitie's Club Mint 7 Pack

If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, you already know how the rest of that line goes. McVitie's Club Mint is the bar that made opening the lunchbox worth it.

A proper chunky chocolate biscuit bar with that cool hit of mint. Seven of them, each in its own wrapper, which is roughly six more than will make it to Friday.

Somebody in your house will swear they only had the one. The wrappers in the bin will tell a different story.

It is the UK pack, and it ships from within Canada, so the club is open again.

Frequently asked questions about McVitie's Club Mint 7 Pack

Q: Is this the UK version of Club Mint?

A: It is. Made in the United Kingdom, the same bar you had at school, and it ships from within Canada.

Q: How many bars are in the pack?

A: Seven individually wrapped bars, 154g altogether. One a day, if you have that kind of willpower.

Q: Are they good for posting to someone?

A: The wrappers mean they travel well and are easy to share out. Keep them away from a hot radiator and they will arrive looking like Club bars, not a puddle.

More about McVitie's Club Mint 7 Pack

In Britain, the Club is the biscuit for people who find a digestive a bit too polite. It lives in the wrapped-bar aisle next to the Penguin, the tea-break heavyweight that turns up in lunchboxes, office drawers and the glovebox of every dad's car.

People in Canada search for Club Mint by name because they want that exact one, not a near relation. It is the taste of a packed lunch eaten on a wall at break time, and that is a very specific thing to miss.

The pack holds seven individually wrapped bars, 154g in all. Keep them somewhere cool and dry in the cupboard and they will sit happily until someone finds them. Some people swear by a spell in the fridge for a better snap, which is a debate best had over a cup of tea.

McVitie's also makes Hobnobs, Jaffa Cakes, Rich Tea and the digestive that started it all, so a packet of Club Mint rarely goes into the basket alone. A box of proper tea bags usually follows it.
