The story of Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew
Pudding, but in a mug
Sticky toffee pudding is the one you order straight after saying you could not possibly. This box puts the idea of it in a mug, mid-afternoon, with nobody at the table passing comment. On the front is Yorkshire Tea, the flagship blend from Taylors of Harrogate, and that name does a lot of work for anyone who left Britain with strong views on a proper cup. Kettle on, good mug out, and a Tuesday feels a bit more like home.

Two brothers in Harrogate
In 1886 Charles Edward Taylor and his brother set up in Harrogate, Yorkshire, trading as C.E. Taylor & Co. and blending tea and coffee. They went on to open tea kiosks in Harrogate and Ilkley. Plenty of people in Britain have opinions about tea. Very few turn those opinions into a business that is still blending in the same town all these years later.
Then the tea room moved in
In 1962 Bettys, the Yorkshire tea room business founded by Swiss confectioner Frederick Belmont, bought Taylors and renamed it Taylors of Harrogate. A Swiss confectioner buying a Yorkshire tea merchant sounds like the opening line of a joke. The merger created what is now known as the Bettys & Taylors Group, which remains a privately held, family-run business. Yorkshire Tea, the flagship black tea blend, was launched in 1977. That turned out to be the punchline.
Still blending at home
Taylors of Harrogate is headquartered in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, where the business continues to blend and pack its teas. Yorkshire Tea has become one of the UK's best-known and best-selling tea brands. In Britain the kettle goes on for good news, bad news and no news at all. Over here, a box with that name on it means the kettle can go on in exactly the same way, and the biscuit tin finally has an excuse to come out.
