Nestlé Dairy Box - 322g

In Britain, Dairy Box belongs to a very particular job: the thank-you for the neighour who fed the cat, the box brought round to Gran's, the one opened after Sunday dinner when nobody can face a pudding but everybody can face a chocolate.

People in Canada search for it by name because they remember it by name. It is less about chocolate in general and more about that box, that lid, and the sound of the tray being slid out while someone pretends not to be looking.

It comes as a proper boxed assortment, big enough to share round a room or to last one determined person several evenings. Kept somewhere cool and dry, it sits happily in the cupboard until there is a reason to open it, and there is always a reason.

Most people pair it with a pot of strong tea and a film nobody chose. It also makes a tidy present alongside a packet of British biscuits for someone who has been away from home a while.
