Bonds Blue Raz Bon Bons - 110g

Bon bons come from the sweet-shop jar era: a row of glass jars behind the counter, a quarter weighed out into a paper bag, and a chewy little ball in a powdery coat that ends up on your fingers, your jumper and the car seat. Blue raspberry is the loud one in the family, a flavour that has never once pretended to be a real fruit.

People in Canada go looking for these because a bag of them is the walk home from school, all in one go. You can try describing them to friends here, but it is quicker to just hand one over and watch.

The practical bit: they come in a bag that sits happily in the cupboard, kept somewhere cool and dry so the coating stays dusty rather than sticky. In theory it is a sharing bag. In practice it gets folded over and hidden at the back of a drawer.

Most people buy them with the rest of the old sweet-shop line-up: pear drops, cola cubes, something sherbety, enough to fill a film night or a parcel for someone who misses home.
