About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality — flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy — because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left — and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box

About Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box

White Maltesers in Canada are the sort of thing people spot in a British shop and immediately put two in the basket without thinking about it, because they know exactly what they are and they know they will not find them on a standard Canadian shelf.

The Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box contains 200g of the classic malt honeycomb centres, this time coated in white chocolate rather than the familiar milk chocolate shell. The result is a little sweeter, a little more festive in character, and very much the kind of thing that ends up disappearing faster than anyone planned. The gift box format makes them an easy addition to a Christmas hamper or a decent excuse to buy them for yourself and call it seasonal.

Maltesers White Truffles are a seasonal UK release, which means they are not something you can pick up year-round even back home. The Great British Shop imports them directly from the United Kingdom, so there is no waiting on a parcel from overseas or hoping a family member remembers to pack them. They are confirmed suitable for vegetarians.

Seasonal lines like these tend to move quickly once they land, which is worth keeping in mind if white Maltesers are already on your list. The 200g box is the UK version people recognise from the Christmas shelves, imported as part of the annual British seasonal range.

Frequently asked questions about Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box

Q: Are Maltesers White Truffles suitable for vegetarians?

A: Yes, Maltesers White Truffles are suitable for vegetarians, as confirmed by the product's vegetarian claim. They do contain milk, barley, soya and wheat, so they are not suitable for anyone with those allergies or intolerances. The box may also contain traces of almonds and hazelnuts, which is worth knowing if you are buying as a gift.

Q: What makes the Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box a seasonal British product?

A: The Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box is a UK Christmas seasonal release, which means it does not sit on shelves year-round the way standard Maltesers do. It turns up reliably in British shops each festive season and has become one of those boxes people quietly look forward to, the kind that appears in Christmas hampers and disappears before January. Stock imported into Canada is limited each year.

Q: Is the Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box the UK version?

A: Yes, this is the UK version, imported from the United Kingdom. It is the same 200g gift box sold in British shops during the Christmas season, made with the same ingredients including barley malt extract and cocoa butter. For anyone who has picked one up at a UK supermarket over the years, it is exactly what they remember.

More about Maltesers White Truffles Gift Box

Maltesers White Truffles sit within the seasonal gifting tier of the British chocolate category, the kind of limited release that appears on UK shelves around Christmas and tends to vanish quickly. White chocolate over a malt honeycomb centre is a different proposition from the standard Maltesers format, and the gift box presentation puts them a step above a standard sharing bag.

For Canadians who grew up with Maltesers, the white chocolate version is a specific seasonal memory rather than an everyday product. It is not something a Canadian supermarket carries, which is why people searching for Maltesers White Truffles in Canada tend to end up looking for a British importer rather than a mainstream retailer.

The box contains 200g, which is a reasonable amount for a gift or a household that intends to share. Store in a cool dry place and the chocolate holds well, making it practical to order ahead of the occasion rather than last-minute. The gift box format also means it arrives looking presentable without any extra wrapping effort.

Maltesers White Truffles fit naturally alongside the broader Maltesers in Canada range, and they sit within a wider selection of British chocolate that covers everything from everyday bars to seasonal and gift formats.

The box ships from within Canada, so whether it is heading to someone in Fredericton or being added to a Christmas order in Toronto, there is no overseas parcel delay to factor in. A small thing, but a useful one when timing matters.
