Rowntree's Safari Mix Giant Tube - 100g

Rowntree's sits right in the middle of the British sweet shelf. It is the name on the packets you bought with pocket money at the corner shop, the one that turned up in party bags and at the bottom of the school trip rucksack. Safari Mix is that same Rowntree's habit, dressed for an outing.

People in Canada go looking for it because a sweet is a very specific memory. The name on the front, the shape of the tube, the bit at the bottom where everything gets wedged: it has to be the one you remember, and only that one will do.

The giant tube holds 100g and is tall enough to stand up in a lunch box or poke out of a backpack's side pocket. It lives happily in a cool, dry cupboard, ideally one nobody else in the house knows about. Road trips, cinema bags and long rainy afternoons are where it does its best work.

Rowntree's is also behind Fruit Pastilles, Randoms and Jelly Tots, so once Safari Mix is in the basket the rest of the sweet shop tends to follow. Most people say they are buying it for the kids. Most people are not being entirely honest.
