About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality — flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy — because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left — and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee

About Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee

Instant coffee that tastes like Christmas pudding sounds like either a stroke of genius or a very British experiment gone right. Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee lands firmly in the first category, and if you have been missing this particular seasonal ritual since moving to Canada, here it is.

This is a flavoured instant coffee from Beanies in the UK, a brand known for turning a straightforward cup of coffee into something that tastes considerably more interesting than it has any right to. The Christmas Pudding flavour brings those warm, spiced, fruit-forward notes into a 50g jar of instant coffee that takes about as long to make as any other cup. No special equipment, no ceremony, just a mug and a kettle.

Beanies is the kind of thing that shows up in British Christmas hampers and sits on the kitchen counter through December, getting opened every time someone wants something festive without committing to an actual pudding. The Great British Shop stocks it as part of its seasonal range of British groceries imported from the UK, so there is no need to wait on a parcel or hope someone remembers to pack it in their luggage.

The 50g jar is a solid seasonal size, right for getting through December without it outstaying its welcome into February. It is also suitable for vegans, which makes it a straightforward option for a mixed household or a hamper going to someone whose preferences you are not entirely sure about.

Frequently asked questions about Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee

Q: What does Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee taste like?

A: Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee is designed to evoke the taste of a classic British Christmas pudding in your cup. The flavouring is built into the freeze-dried coffee itself, so you get the festive character without adding anything extra. It is the sort of thing that makes a grey November morning feel slightly more like December, which is either comforting or alarming depending on your relationship with the holiday season.

Q: Is Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee suitable for vegans?

A: Yes, Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee is suitable for vegans. The ingredients are freeze-dried coffee and flavouring, with no animal-derived components. It is made in the UK and the vegan status is confirmed, so it fits neatly into a plant-based diet without any caveats. A small festive win for those who want the Christmas pudding experience without the suet.

Q: Is Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee a seasonal UK import in Canada?

A: It is. Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour instant coffee is manufactured in the UK and arrives in Canada as part of a limited seasonal run each year. Stock tends to sell out, which is the sort of thing that sounds like marketing but is genuinely the case with festive British imports. It is the kind of product people add to a Christmas hamper or order for themselves because it is specific enough to be worth seeking out and not available year-round.

More about Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee

Beanies Christmas Pudding Flavour Instant Coffee sits within a broader range of flavoured instant coffees that have become a recognisable part of the British hot drinks shelf. Flavoured instant coffee is a category the UK has quietly run with for years, and Beanies has made it a speciality, producing dozens of varieties built around the same freeze-dried coffee base with flavouring worked in directly.

For British expats in Canada, seasonal flavours like this one are the sort of thing that simply do not have a direct equivalent on Canadian supermarket shelves. Finding a jar of Christmas Pudding flavour instant coffee when you are settled in Victoria or Brampton is the kind of small thing that makes December feel considerably more familiar.

The 50g jar is a sensible size: compact enough to tuck into a gift parcel or a hamper, and sufficient for a good run of morning cups through the festive season. Once opened, it is best used within three months and stored somewhere cool and dry, which is not a demanding ask. No equipment beyond a kettle is required.

This coffee sits alongside a wide selection of other Beanies varieties, from Gingerbread to Caramel Latte, all following the same format. You can browse the full Beanies range in Canada or explore the wider British tea and coffee selection if you are stocking up on more than one thing.

The jar ships from within Canada rather than overseas, which means it reaches Halifax and everywhere else on a sensible timeline. It is also confirmed suitable for vegans, which is worth knowing if you are putting together a gift for someone with that in mind.
