Pricing

“Why are your prices different online compared to in-store?”

This is one of the more simple questions we receive but one that has one of the more complex answers, and the reason our prices are different happens for a number of different reasons:

1: Delivery costs with our couriers vary from province to province. In some instances where it's appropriate, we subsidise those costs to offer a more attractive delivery price to customers, and in others, we don't. As such, we will sometimes build a portion of the shipping cost into product prices.

2: To further complicate reason #1, for freight such as ours the cost of shipping a particular item depends on both its weight and its volume. An example of this might be a very light but very large item that could cost a lot more to ship than a smaller, heavier one.  This concept is called "shipping weight", or "volumetric weight", and our pricing factors this in.

Due to their shipping weight, some products are considerably more costly to ship than others. Rather than penalise all products, we weigh our pricing smartly to penalise the products that cost a lot to ship, and not penalise products that don't.

If a product is so expensive to ship that it is unviable, we would choose not to sell it rather than sell it for an excessively high price. Jaffa Cakes Yard Stick would be an example of this.

3: Volume shipping discounts; as we took a hiatus from shipping while we set up our first physical location, as well as our import warehouse here in Nova Scotia, our couriers were quick to rescind the volume shipping discounts we earned in 2021. Many of our customers will know the cost of shipping items at retail rates and how they are at times, unfathomable, especially when shipping parcels the size of ours, as we are just starting back up, our prices are not far off retail pricing. As we did back in early 2021, we will pass our shipping savings onto you as we get them.

Summary:

These are some of the factors that lead to pricing differences between online and brick & mortar locations. Our goal is always to offer the best value overall price for the service we provide. Again, our pricing takes these variances into account. You can be rest assured that we have worked the pricing out carefully to make sure that we raise as few prices as possible!

We are committed to being transparent and honest in every aspect of our business.
